Ski was born in Poland but moved to the Netherlands when he was 4. When he was 6, he moved to East Lansing, Mich., where he grew up. He went to Michigan State University and majored in computational mathematics, but don’t judge him for that.He doesn’t identify with math people much. After graduation he was recruited to the Seattle area for work; he’s been with the same employer for four years. While he does have a job he enjoys, his ideal career is to be an entrepreneur.
To pursue the dream of being an
entrepreneur, he spends a few nights a week at Bauhaus hunched over his laptop, hacking away on the next big thing. He started his first business a decade ago, while still in high school; he is now on his third. The first two no longer exist, but they were good while they lasted (they paid the bar tabs in college).
Nerdiness aside, he is also a casual competitive athlete. This year he raced in one sprint triathlon, and he also just finished the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride. He hopes to do a few more triathlons this summer. He plays basketball in a couple of leagues year-round. Walking around with a limp from sports injuries is commonplace.
Being born in Poland and having family back there, he’s had countless opportunities to explore all of Europe growing up. Spain is one of his favorites, as is northern Poland by the Baltic Sea. He loves travelling. He’s hoping his next trip will be to visit family in Poland, then to a friend’s wedding in India, then finish off the trek in Australia.
He enjoys various genres of music; he spends most of his time listening to electronica. His favorite “band” is Evil Nine. Heard of 'em? He guesses not. He goes to a fair share of shows, usually at the Showbox or Neumos.
He is a casual artist, too; he dabbles in photography and other random small projects. Other than that, his artistic outlet is cooking. He doesn’t cook as often as he would like to, but he tries to challenge himself every time. His favorite dish to cook/eat is a mean Chicken Tikka Masala.
He likes stepping out of his comfort zone to explore. He’s discovered some pretty neat things this way. This also explains why he doesn’t spend much time doing mundane things (e.g. video games, watching TV). He can’t remember the last time he was bored.
Ski's Date: European Tour
With a nod to my international heritage, we’ll take a tour of Europe – without getting on a plane. We’ll start with croissants and coffee at Boulangerie Nantaise, a French organic bakery. We’ll stroll through the Seattle Art Museum and study the works of European artists, then sit down to an authentic dinner at the Polish Home Association. For dessert, it’s a taste of Italy with gelato at Gelatioamo.
As a boost to this fundraising effort, Ski has generously offered to match the winning bidder dollar for dollar (up to $2,000) in a donation to Roses and Rosemary.
