Description:

Community for Youth needs volunteers for their annual auction. This year’s auction will be held on January 28th, 2012 at the Hyatt at Olive 8 in downtown Seattle.

In total we need around 30 volunteers to help with various aspects of the event, including the silent and live auction. Volunteers will arrive at the times listed below for their respective position.

Auction Check-In: We need 6-9 volunteers to run the registration table. This includes greeting auction attendees, finding correct auction bidder cards, ensuring registration packets are complete, collecting credit card information for easy pay, and handling all aspects in getting guests registered for the event. Training will begin at 4pm the day of the event.

Data Entry/Filing: We need 4 volunteers for data entry during the event. This involves entering bid information into the computer as items are purchased and insuring that the correct item is charged to the winning bidder. We also need 3 volunteers to file envelopes and bid forms once the information has been entered in the computer. Training begins at 4:30pm the day of the event.

Silent Closing/Safekeeping: We need 6-10 volunteers for the closing of the silent auction. These volunteers will be responsible for monitoring and tracking items during the auction and then transferring silent auction items into storage. Items must be stored efficiently so they may be picked up quickly at the end of the night. Training begins at 4:15pm the day of the event.

Recorders: We need 2 volunteers to record auction bids during the live auction. This requires close attention to detail in order to track bidders during the fast pace live auction. Training begins at 6:30pm the day of the event.

Runners: We need 2-4 runners for the live auction. Runners are responsible for obtaining signatures from winning bidders at their table after items have been purchased. Training begins at 6:30pm the day of the event.

Spotters: We need 2 spotters to aide the auctioneer during the live auction. Spotters help the auctioneer see bidders in various areas of the room. Training begins at 6:30pm the day of the event.

Community for Youth is more than a one-on-one mentoring program pairing students from three of Seattle's high schools - ClevelandRainier Beach and Sealth - with adult mentors. It builds a family-like community of students and mentors who support each other. Students and mentors participate in intensive, growth-focused four-day camps, monthly workshops and community activities that foster life-success skills. This curriculum focused on building healthy relationships and developing insights, is the foundation of the program's success
