Come help out at the Food Bank at St. Mary's!
This food bank has felt a massive economic impact: from the increased number of patrons each week, to a decrease in donations and the closures of other local food banks. BEAN will be helping out once again on one of its busiest weekends.
Among the possible activities: the "greeter" position (computer check-in), handing out food, re-stocking items, sorting produce, bagging pastries, bulk-bagging items, helping customers carry things out to their cars, flattening cardboard for recycling, or sorting non-perishable items.
Please arrive no later than 9:45 a.m., as the food bank opens promptly at 10:00 a.m., sometimes earlier depending on the weather. People should wear comfortable clothes and dress for the unpredictable Seattle weather. Part of the food bank is an area covered only by a metal awning and even the inside can get quite cold.
The Food Bank at St. Mary's is located two blocks south of Jackson (between Jackson and Dearborn) on 20th. There is a parking lot, but also PLENTY of street parking available.
This is a VERY popular BEAN volunteer event. As noted at the top, we've had to limit attendance to 10 volunteers due to the small workspace at the food bank. Sign up early, but PLEASE (pretty please.....) update your attendance if you cannot make it so that others may step in and we won't be left short-handed.
Thanks for your help!
